Recorded from the live site with its loop playing. The sound is on odrdark.com.

ODR Dark is the harder half of Other Dimension Records, and the brief was that it should look nothing like its parent. The direction came from print rather than from other websites — a stack of techno posters, whose shared language is diagonal hatch, enormous jumps in type size with nothing in between, hairline-ruled data tables and letterforms cropped by the edge of the frame.

The site runs at 140 BPM. That is not a figure of speech: the page is driven by the label’s own four-bar loop, and every moving element sits on its sixteenth-note grid, so the wireframe mark turns, the camera dollies and the figure moves on the beat rather than on a timer that happens to look musical. The tempo, the bar and the step are printed in the corner because they are real.

The figure is motion capture, reduced to a skeleton and retargeted onto a decimated mesh, then phase-aligned so its accents land on the beat instead of near it. Sound is off until a visitor asks for it, because a site that demands audio before it makes sense is a site most people close. The page still moves without it; switch the loop on and everything locks to the beat, which is how the clip above was recorded.

Underneath, it is an ordinary tenant on the same platform that runs every other site here — the same admin, the same catalogue model, the same billing. That is the point worth drawing out: the infrastructure is shared and the design is not. Nothing about this page could be assembled from a template, and nothing about it required its own server.
